Learning how to meditate is similar among a lot of different cultures and religions. This stays true in many aspects of practicing meditation, from learning how to breathe properly, proper posture, when to meditate, picking the correct place, mapping out your meditation and understanding our thoughts and emotions. It is important to take all these things into consideration but don’t get too overwhelmed with perfecting any one thing when you begin to learn how to meditate. It will take effort and the desire to experience an enlightening and joyful meditation as you begin to unfold the many layers that define who you think you are and experience the wonderful benefits of meditation. It is necessary that you learn how to meditate the correct way to get the most from your meditation experience.
Choose Your Meditation Spot
When you are beginning to meditate it is important to find a place that is quiet, free from clutter and comfortable. Find a comfortable area that gives you a feeling of peace and solitude. Don’t stress with finding the right spot, after a few meditations the room you choose will start to absorb the energy from your meditations. As you continue to program your energy into your meditation area you will start reaching deeper states of relaxation
When Should You Meditate
Try to pick the same time to meditate each day. A good time to meditate would be in the morning before you’ve been inundated with the stresses and demands of your day. Our daily responsibilities put us under a lot of stress and the demands make it harder for us to have a good meditation when we try to meditate and relax. Be consistent with yourdaily morning meditation and you will notice that your day will unfold in a much better joyful pattern.
A Meditation Plan
You must pick your meditation plan when you are just beginning. The correct state of mind is important if you are going to be productive. If you come home from a long day of work and then just sit right down and meditate you will spend the entire meditation trying to calm your mind. You would be better off if you took a short walk to relax the body from all the stresses and sensory input of the day. Taking a short cool shower is a great way to help wake you up if you are tired. Learning how to meditate in this way is intelligent, and being honest with ourselves will help prepare the mind and the body for a productive and relaxing meditation.
Posture
There are many different positions you can use when you are meditating but when you are just learning how to meditate it is best if you began in a seated position. Sit on the floor on a cushion or in a chair that has a straight back. Picture the energy traveling from the ground through your body and out through your head. Picture your body being pulled upright by an imaginary rope that is attached to the top of your head. This will provide a channel for the energy to flow through as it journeys up your spine and out through your head
Place your hands on you thighs and relax your fingers letting go of all the tension in your arms and hands. Tuck you chin downwards and begin to relax you jaw and your tongue. Place your tongue to the roof of your mouth or up against the upper teeth with you mouth open ever so slightly. With half open eyes look out and relax your vision by seeing but not really focusing on anything. Picture yourself in a trance like state of awareness and no awareness at all. Do the same thing with any noises you hear, you are aware of the sounds but you don’t give them any importance. Allow these sounds to flow as part of the meditation and of no more importance than the background sounds we hear each and every day.
The Breath
When you begin to learn how to meditate you will notice that your mind is jumping rapidly from thought to thought as our minds struggle to gain control once again. By focusing on your breath you will learn to let go of these thoughts. Counting your breaths is a great way to stay focused. As you breathe deep into your belly and then breathe out consider this a count of one. To help train yourself to quiet your mind try doing a series of 15 to 20 breaths. As you breathe in imagine yourself breathing prana energy in and as you breath out picture all your tension and stress being released with each breath. Prana is the life force of the universe and is all around us. Learn to tap into the universal source of energy by imagining breathing in prana energy.
